Damon Dash has been arrested for owing two women more than $400,000 in child support.
Damon Dash who is best known as the co-founder of Roc-A-Fella music records, a company set up by him, Jay-Z and Kareem Burke was picked up on Wednesday by cops in NYC. The hip-hop mogul was arrested for not paying two of his baby mama’s child support. Earlier this year, news broke that Dash owed both women $400.000 and that he had not made any move to pay up.
The women, Rachel Roy and Cindy Morales have three kids for him. The former who is also his ex-wife has two daughters with him, while the latter has a son with him. The NYC Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Dash was taken to the Bronx Family Court after two arrest warrants were issued for the music producer. Last week, the 49-year-old filed legal documents claiming that he has no personal income.
The NYC Sheriff Joseph Fucito said that they have been looking to arrest Dash since 2015. A felony warrant for his arrest was first issued in April 2015 by the Bronx County Family Court. The court at the time ordered him to pay $62,000 to Morales. This year, Dash was ordered to pay $342,000 to his ex-wife after he was found guilty of contempt of court. The music producer reportedly made no payments until his arrest on Wednesday.
Damon Dash said that his current fiancee, Raquel Horn, is pregnant and this has added to his expenses. He claimed that the only income he was banking on to pay for the child support he owed was payments from Lee Daniels, the creator of “Empire” who owed him $2 million. Daniels had agreed to pay Dash in installments after they settled a $2 million feud in November. The music producer claimed that he did not receive producer credits and profits on the popular series despite his contributions. Dash in his Manhattan filing said that he is yet to be paid any money. He has, however, been released.
