The Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS), that historic auto show held annually in the Swiss city of Geneva, will reportedly be spawning a biannual motor event in Doha as part of a new partnership between its organizers and Qatar Tourism Board.
According to credible sources, next year, the event will take place in Switzerland as usual, between 19th and 27th of February 2022. However, another show would take place in the new Middle Eastern site starting either the fall of 2022 or 2023. Show organizers have emphasized that the Geneva event will continue to be held on an annual basis.
It will now be recognized as the 'Qatar Geneva International Motor Show', with the co-organizers labelling the new timetable addition as a new world-famous motor show for the Middle East.
Since its inception in 1905, the Geneva Motor Show has been held almost every year. Though the 2022 edition would be the first in 3 years, following the cancellation of the 2020 and 2021 exhibitions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Final dates for the inaugural Qatari edition of the event, which will be held biennially, would be announced in the coming weeks. In February, a complete idea for the show's new format will be revealed in Geneva.
Qatar Tourism chairman and Qatar Airways CEO, Akbar Al Baker, stated that in accordance with the Qatar National Vision 2030 strategy, the tourism board is expanding its tourism proposition so as to position that nation as a go-to tourism destination in the Middle East and also ensure that guests in the county enjoy the best of Qatar.
While the financial details about the Qatar arrangement have not been made public, it is highly probable that the show organizers regarded that Qatari financing as a way to secure the event's future.
