Monstercat buys Silk Music to introduce its new brand- ‘Monstercat Silk’

Canadian music recording company- Monstercat has reportedly announced the acquisition of LA-based label Silk Music. The companies have together launched Monstercat Silk, the company’s third brand after Uncaged and Instinct spans deep, trance, house, progressive house, chillout, among many other genres.

For the record, Monstercat Silk’s inaugural release was done by Shingo Nakamura- a Japanese house artist who made a return to the Silk community with his latest single-Glow.  

Apparently, Glow is the title of Nakamura’s forthcoming album which will be released on the Monstercat Silk platform in June 2021. Other notable names that will appear on Monstercat Silk next month include PROFF, A.M.R, Kaskade Vintage & Morelli, and Arielle Maren, among several others.

Notably, through the purchase of Silk, the release schedule of Monstercat will expand to six releases each week, between Instinct, Uncaged, and Silk.

According to Jacob Henry, Label Director of Monstercat Silk, the new venture has been introduced to deepen and diversify the company’s prevailing musical offerings with a vast range of electronic subgenres. Monstercat Silk aims at reaching out to a larger community of fans along with creating a unique global network of industry partners he further added.  

Citing reports, Monstercat currently generates over 200 million audio streams in a month from its catalog and is expected to increase it in the year 2021.

In recent years, the company has entered into a partnership with many companies one of them being with Rocket League- a video game developed by Psyonix. Other deals included the provision of music in the games of hyper-casual developer Amanotes along with a launch slot on Soundtrack by Twitch.

It is worth mentioning that in January 2021, Monstercat had broken into the lucrative realm of NFT where the company released two different drops on the NFT marketplace. The company generated USD 180,000 within two minutes with the total reaching USD 250,000 after resales were factored in.
